What is it?
At Protean, we define Operational Maturity as a measure of progress towards perfection in every aspect of your business.
What does it include?
- Establishing a Vision for the organisation (capable to be expressed in numbers!)
- Developing and deploying an actionable and measurable strategy to deliver the vision
- Aligning all activities and personnel to the vision and strategy through prioritisation and management focus
- Managing requirements, constraints and compliance
- Continually improving all processes that deliver value to customers
- Ensuring that supporting processes are effective, efficient, and continually improved
- Delivering financial and non-financial results that demonstrate the measures above are successful
Why should I care?
Understanding your current state, defining where you want to get to, prioritising and driving improvement are fundamental leadership tasks. If you’re not proactively doing those things, you’re not leading, you are reacting.
Operationally mature businesses have been shown to have significantly lower costs of failure (e.g. scrap, rework, complaints, absenteeism, breakdowns, attrition, claims, bad publicity, etc.). That reflects in great customer service, client loyalty, engaged employees and strong results.
